As per discussion with Hazelcombe Farm and @Timotheos, the scythe's snath (handle) has broken and needs fixing / replacing.
The short-term proposed solution is to cut the snath and reattach the scythe blade to the end, so it is slightly shorter than before. It will likely break again.
The long-term solution is to make a more heavy-duty snath for the scythe.
Note that Taeben's father might have access to a pipe-metal-bending device that we might be able to borrow to make a very heavy duty scythe handle.
The scythe was in the upper shed. I have fixed it using the short-term solution: cutting the broken part of the snath and reattaching the blade to the end.
I have tested the scythe by cutting grass around the house and it appears to work correctly.
There is a missing part screw to tighten the scythe blade to the snath. It is not essential because it is one of two, and the second one is currently holding it. Regardless, I will inquire about obtaining a new one.
