Target weeds (teach work bee collaborators about these):
- Lantana
- Glycine
- Hamil grass
General plan:
๐ฑ Saturday 9th April 2022 is 'clear the riparian area of lantana and weeds' day
๐ฑ Sunday 10th April 2022 is 'plant all our plant babies' day (both tubestock and seeds)
๐ฑ Work bee attendees (please confirm attendance with members first) are welcome to set up camp Friday afternoon & leave Monday morning
๐ฑ Bring boots, snacks, drinks, and friends
The creek surrounds just North of the Festival Flat are the target area for an ecological restoration project at Firestone Sanctuary. We have a grant from council with the Land For Wildlife programme, as well as using some of the kind donations received from visitors such as yourself, to put towards a big planting in this area.
So, we are holding a work bee and big camp-over weekend, with bonfire and hangs on the Saturday night ๐
We will be clearing (with brushcutters, machetes, scythes) the area of invasive species (e.g. lantana) on Saturday 9th, hanging out together that night, then planting all the tubestock seedlings on the Sunday 10th April.
- Use lantana as stakes?
- Use carpet squares with slits around each tree / birdwing vine as protectors
Other consideraitons:
- Food
- Music
- People organiser on the day
