Goal:
- Clear and plant the target area of the riparian zone (around the bathing pool area of the creek)
- Discord channel link

Preparation:
[] Update map of target area
[] @Emily: Find all the gloves around map/cottage and surrounding area, bring them down
[] @Emily: Bring scissors down for further detail clearing
[] Bring tiny mattocks, gloves and scissors down to the bottom
[] Attach brushcutter blades to @maclean's brushcutter and the Honda Versa brushcutter
[] Bring fuel down for brushcutters
[] Find and bring down wheelbarrow
[] Find soldering iron and use it for burning plant labels into wood
[] Soak lomandra seeds and prepare other native seeds for planting
[] Remove tree protectors from existing Festival Flat trees that don't need them (to reuse for new plantings)
[x] Search for additional gloves and tools
[x] Send GIS files to Josh
[x] Find or purchase tiny mattocks
[x] Make seed list
[] Make plant list
[x] Purchase plants (Kumbartcho)
[] Make a plan for stakes? Tree labels? Weed matting?
General plan:
🌱 Saturday 9th April 2022 is 'clear the riparian area of lantana and weeds' day
🌱 Sunday 10th April 2022 is 'plant all our plant babies' day (both tubestock and seeds)
🌱 Work bee attendees (please confirm attendance with members first) are welcome to set up camp Friday afternoon & leave Monday morning
🌱 Bring boots, snacks, drinks, and friends
The creek surrounds just North of the Festival Flat are the target area for an ecological restoration project at Firestone Sanctuary. We have a grant from council with the Land For Wildlife programme, as well as using some of the kind donations received from visitors such as yourself, to put towards a big planting in this area.
So, we are holding a work bee and big camp-over weekend, with bonfire and hangs on the Saturday night 🙂
We will be clearing (with brushcutters, machetes, scythes) the area of invasive species (e.g. lantana) on Saturday 9th, hanging out together that night, then planting all the tubestock seedlings on the Sunday 10th April.
- Use lantana as stakes?
- Use carpet squares with slits around each tree / birdwing vine as protectors
Other consideraitons:
- Food
- Music
- People organiser on the day
Current tool list:
- 2 fuel-powered brushcutters
- 8 pairs of gloves + 1 pair welding gloves
- 1 sledgehammer
- 1 woodsplitting axe
- 2 short rusty machetes
- 1 longer machete
- 1 scythe
- 3 loppers
- 2 fencing tools
- 4 spades and shovels (+1 up top if needed)
- 2 rakes (+1 up top if needed)
- 2 post hole diggers
- 2 cutting mattocks
- 2 pick mattocks
- 1 pick
- 1 rubber mallet
- 2 metal mallets
- 2 hand hoe planting tools
- 1 can PURPLE spray paint
Jaye will bring:
- 1 motored auger
- 2 brushcutters
The target ares is a riparian zone, waterway area, fringing woodland / vine forest.
Council mapped the target area as RE 12.3.7 / 12.3.16 with an 80/20 ratio between those two (RE means Regional Ecosystem code).
